The Visual Arts Program focuses on developing the artistic abilities of students within the liberal arts tradition. Students majoring in Visual Arts select an area of specialization within the studio arts from painting, ceramics, photography or visual communication design and spend several semesters learning the concepts and techniques of their chosen area of concentration.
The Theatre Arts major provides students with sound training in all areas of theatre, which can serve as an end in itself, as undergraduate preparation for graduate study, or as a program leading directly to a career in theatre. The Theatre Arts core curriculum provides a solid theatre background for either of the advanced specialty areas, performance or design. The core curriculum represents the basic body of knowledge that all theatre artists should have. The specialty courses afford each student advanced training in his selected career area: acting, directing, scenic design, costume design, lighting design, sound design, and theatre management.
The Music Industry major provides training for students seeking an alternative to traditional performance and/or education paths in music. Courses include studies in basic theory and music history, music commerce, music technology/recording, music internships and specific individual performance skills. A minor in Business is recommended by the Department of Fine Arts. Any minor has to be approved by the department.
The Francis Marion University Art Education program offers our students a comprehensive education, based on quality instruction taught by well-qualified faculty, and non-traditional educational experiences, including opportunities to participate in fieldtrips and community-based service projects.
